February 15, 2018 -- Yesterday was a monumental day for the Tampa International Airport, as its one billion dollar expansion was officially opened to the public. EarthCam, the leader in construction camera technology, is celebrating this milestone by sharing its construction time-lapse movie for the massive expansion project.
From November 2014 to February 2018, a combination of four EarthCam construction cameras documented progress for the airport’s Master Plan Phase 1, which includes new SkyConnect trains – a $417 million, 1.5-mile automated people mover linking the main terminal to the economy parking garage – and a new consolidated rental car facility.
The building of SkyConnect and the new rental car center was done in response to the airport’s growing passenger traffic. In 2017, Tampa International Airport served a record 19.6 million passengers and expects to serve more than 20 million in 2018.
Watch 39 months of construction progress for Tampa International Airport’s new expansion fly by in just 3.5 minutes with EarthCam’s new time-lapse movie.
