EarthCam Remembers Martin Luther King, Jr. with New Webcam

Virtually Visit this National Park Service Memorial on the National Mall

April 04, 2014 -- Visitors will flock to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC today to pay their respects to Dr. King and reflect on his powerful messages. EarthCam invites people around the world to remember the work of MLK with its new high definition webcam at the memorial, delivering an eye-to-eye perspective for a unique viewing experience.

In partnership with the National Park Service, EarthCam’s digital SLR webcam delivers an up-close look at the memorial with crisp 16 megapixel imagery. Situated adjacent to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, and in direct line between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, the 'Stone of Hope' stands tall at an impressive 30 feet. Designed as a lasting tribute to Dr. King’s legacy, the webcam is the perfect complement to that mindset, preserving the monument in time and serving as a unique tool to educate generations to come about MLK’s messages of love, tolerance and equality.

“We had the wonderful opportunity to document construction for this special monument and created an 18-month time-lapse movie to share with people around the world. Returning to this location on the National Mall is part of our education initiative, transporting the public to the MLK Memorial and other iconic landmarks through the use of our webcam technology,” said Brian Cury, CEO & Founder of EarthCam.

The significant memorial was dedicated on August 28, 2011, the 48th anniversary of the groundbreaking March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. EarthCam proudly documented construction of the monument from March 2010 to August 2011 with a special robotic construction camera. The EarthCam Creative Team selected the best images out of thousands and hand-edited them into a professional time-lapse movie. EarthCam’s commemorative time-lapse can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/earthcam.
